An Engineer is a person who uses principles of science and mathematics along with the help of technology to solve problems. Improving the way we live, work, communicate, travel, stay healthy, and entertain, engineering is everywhere in the world around us.
Professional Engineering and a PE License
A certification that authenticates an engineer’s adhesion to a higher level of standards is known as a Professional Engineering License or as a PE License. At professional engineers Mackay such standards are maintained. In the 1900’s a certificate of skill and proficiency was not a compulsory requirement for individuals to work in the field of engineering, thus putting public safety, welfare and health at risk.
Obtaining the status of a registered engineer is a remarkable milestone in any engineer’s career path. His or her clarity increases, credibility is proven and the career gains newfound originality.
Main Branches of Engineering
Field of engineering offers more career paths and choices than any other professional stream today. In the recent past there were four main branches of engineering as Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Chemical engineering and Electrical engineering. But the numbers of available engineering degrees are vast today. As per most recent information now there are six major categories of engineering. They are Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, Chemical engineering, Geotechnical engineering and Management engineering and there are hundreds of different subcategories under each of these main branches.
Engineers design and create machinery, build skyscrapers, breath-taking skylines and oversee public necessities as they handle society’s needs, wants and matters on so many other levels.
Common Engineering Fields
Civil engineers solve problems with infrastructure and large structures like buildings, bridges, dams and highways.
Mechanical engineers work on systems related to motion such as turbines, motors and robotics.
Electrical engineers solve matters on power generation and distribution matters on electrical equipment, power systems and communications systems.
Chemical engineers work on matters in relation to chemicals and materials like Plastics and polymers, food and medicines and Petrochemicals.
Aerospace or Aeronautical engineers work with aviation systems, defence systems, rocket and fuel systems.
Environmental engineers work with pollution and ecological matters like waste deposable and management systems, ecological concepts that promotes sustainability and pollution prevention and control mechanisms.
Occupational Classifications Based on Educational Qualifications.
Professional Engineer –
Professional Engineers hold a recognised four-year professional degree in engineering. They design, invent and apply new engineering practices, centres on overall systems, apply leadership and managing skills on a management level. Professional engineers solve diverse problems by taking ambient, community & social issues into account.
Engineering Technologist –
The academic qualification is recognised three year engineering technology degree for an Engineering Technologist. Engineering Technologists focus centres on dealings within the system. They make modifications and adaptions based on recognized engineering principles and practices.
Engineering Associate –
The academic qualification for an Engineering Associate is a recognised two year advanced diploma or associate degree of engineering. Engineering Associates focuses on specific components of the system and works inside codes and applies established and recognized procedures and practices.
Whichever branch, category or level of engineering one may choose, field of engineering stands as one of the best scope for the future.
